The LAMP Consortium is a community of 25 colleges, universities and other educational organizations who band together and share a single instance of Sakai. Doing so has obvious cost benefits. More importantly, the Consortium provides a collaborative environment that supports schools working together, facilitating sharing of faculty and multi-institutional courses and projects. LAMP provides Sakai hosting through Longsight, support, faculty development, additional LTI tools, an annual summer conference, and more. The Mellon Foundation awarded LAMP its “Mellon Award for Technology Collaboration” award, noting that the LAMP Consortium "has shown the higher education community that it is possible for institutions having limited resources to install, operate, and sustain even the most sophisticated software, provided that they work together to meet their common challenges.
