The current version of the Sakai CLE release is 2.9.3

The Sakai CLE 2.9 series builds on previous releases by refining and stabilizing the 2.x feature set. It offers dozens of new features and improvements to key areas like accessibility, internationalization, performance, and security. Sakai CLE 2.9 includes over 600 bug fixes that address key areas like accessibility, internationalization, performance and security.

Among the many enhancements included in Sakai CLE 2.9 are:

  • Improved stability, security, and sustainablity. Improved performance
  • Neo-portal updated skin, with improved navigation
  • Lessons tool part of core Sakai!! Allows for structured release of content
  • Language preference selectable at site level
  • Improved Profile tool with more flexibility and ability to create a site with selected connections
  • CKEditor is the new editor with improved accessibility, speed improvements, and works better with most mobile devices
  • Samigo test and quizzes has a number of upgrades including assessment-type-templates, ability to set scores for sets of students with unsubmitted assessments, a new matrix survey question type, scientific and complex number notation
  • Gradebook has new drop highest, drop lowest, and keep highest grade options. One can hide/show columns in All Grades page. PDF export option added.
  • Forums tool has updates to statistics and grading; an option to require users to post before they can read existing posts; word count for messages; and improved permission settings layout
  • Messages has new permission settings and an option to BCC (blind cc) messages
  • Accessiblity improvements in portal, many accessibility improvements, new editor is more accessible
  • About eighty internationalization fixes

Sakai Foundation actively supports the latest two versions, currently 2.9.x and 2.8.x. Older versions may be in use, but maintaining the code becomes the responsibility of the individual institutions. Institutions are encouraged to take advantage of the latest bug fixes, security patches, and feature enhancements by upgrading to the currently supported versions.
